Welcome to the Clinical Education Department

At Copa Health, we are dedicated to fostering the next generation of mental health professionals through education, training, and collaboration. Our Clinical Education Department offers a range of opportunities designed to support students and professionals in their journey toward becoming skilled, compassionate providers. Whether you are a doctoral psychology trainee, a master’s-level student, or a participant in continuing education, our programs aim to empower you with the knowledge and tools needed to make a lasting impact in the communities you serve.

Our department features three main programs:

  1. The Psychology Training Program
  2. The Master-Level Placements
  3. The Copa Learning Academy

The Psychology Training Program

Copa Health’s Psychology Training Program provides doctoral psychology trainees with a structured, sequential curriculum through three unique opportunities:

  1. APA-Accredited Internship
  2. Practicum Placement for doctoral students
  3. Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program

Trainees play an integral role in our organization by contributing to services at our integrated health clinics and participating as active members of the client care team. For information about these opportunities, please see below.

The Health Service Psychology Internship at Copa Health is a 2,000-hour, 12-month program fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). For verification or questions regarding accreditation, contact:

How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements:

Copa Health is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and uses the APPIC Application for Psychology Internships (AAPI) online service. Copa also participates in APPIC Match. Applicants must register for the APPIC Match through National Matching Services Inc. Visit the APPIC website for details on the application process.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Upon matching at our site, the following Pre-Employment Requirements must be completed (prior to the start of internship):

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Ability to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Department of Public Safety.
  • Completion of a pre-employment physical and TB test (if required by the program).

Failure to meet these requirements will result in removal from the internship program. For additional information, contact the Training Director or Copa Health Human Resources at (480) 969-3800. Practicum Placements

Copa Health offers practicum opportunities for doctoral students. These placements provide hands-on experience in integrated health settings, emphasizing evidence-based practices and collaborative care. For more information and eligibility requirements, contact psychologytraining@copahealth.org.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program

This advanced training opportunity prepares post-doctoral trainees for independent practice, emphasizing professional growth and clinical expertise within integrated health systems.

Master-Level Placements

Copa Health also provides practicum opportunities for master’s-level students pursuing careers in mental health (e.g. Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work). These placements offer foundational training in evidence-based interventions, client care, and collaboration within our integrated care teams. At Copa Health, we are committed to preparing doctoral-level psychologists for successful careers through high-quality, comprehensive continuing education.
